Hello there. Who hasn’t written a post in a million, billion, gazillion years?
Yup, that’s me.
Yea, the last month has honestly been a flaming shit show but I think I have things under control… for now.
So, I had been insistent on making cinnamon sticks for the absolute longest time, they are like my top 5 treats, but nope, they kept coming out wrong. Are these wrong? Nope, they be boss baby. I’m on a detox in preparation for spring and I some how convinced myself that they are green leafy vegetables which are a part of a healthy balanced diet and not just butter filled gluten bombs of sugar filled death. Nope, nothing suspicious here.
Let me get into this thang.
Wait. Cinnamon Sticks or Cinnamon Twirls? Meh.
What’s in these thangs
Puff Pastry (Make it yourself, buy it at the shop, go wild)
2 tablespoons butter/margarine
4 tablespoons brown sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla essence
How you make these thangs
Preheat oven at 175 degrees C.
Roll out puff pastry to 3mm thick.
Mix sugar, cinnamon and vanilla in a small bowl and set aside.
Cut butter into small pieces and sprinkle butter evenly on one half of the pastry. If butter is soft enough, spread it evenly on one half.
Sprinkle the cinnamon mix on the buttered half. Proceed to fold the unbuttered half over the buttered half.
Gently roll the pastry until the pastry is slightly holds together.
Cut the pastry, against the fold, into 2.5cm strips
Hold the strip on the folded half and gently twist each strip.
Bake until golden brown for 25-30 minutes on a baking sheet prepared with parchment paper.
Allow to cool and store in an air tight container for up to five days.

So yeah man. I don’t think this shit could possibly be any easier. I mean, all you have to do is sprinkle some shit on pastry. I mean, bake any pie and save some left-over pastry casing in the freezer and use it later. Fuck, if you are feeling lazy you can even buy a puff pastry. I mean, we won’t do that because we ain’t no lazy hoes, we work in these streets.
OK, so I made these for some friends when they came over as a parting gift, they enjoyed these hoes and so did I. the first hour or so out of the oven is no dubitably the best hour and should be cherished and loved forever. But the rest of the hours are pretty dope too.
My favourite thing is they are just so easy to make, I mean, hello Sunday morning awesomeness. The delicate cinnamon and slight sweetness are perfect for those without an insane sweet tooth. Balance guys, balance. Sugar is not a flavor, it is an enhancer.
Will I be making these again? Yup, the lazy hoe in me will not let these go.
