A pumpkin pie thing

On todays episode of “WHY DO AMERICANS LIE TO US?” we bake a pumpkin pie.

*cues cliché game show sound track*

Pumpkin Pies Everywhere

Uhm, so because its autumn here and I had some left-over pumpkin I decided to make an America classic, I pumpkin pie. I really should have just made soup. Ok, here is the deal. I have never eaten this thing before, but we have all seen those Thanksgiving spreads and honestly, this is the one that bugged me the most. Pumpkin is a vegetable. Why is it a sweet pie? It has to be the most delicious out of the box thinking, this was the conclusion. Was I wrong???? Let’s read this post to find out more.

*did you miss me? I missed you*

  • Pie Crust
  • 425g pureed pumpkin
  • 390g condensed milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons mixed spice
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • Blind bake pie crust at 180 degrees C.
  • Preheat oven at 215 degrees C. Mix ingredients until well mixed.
  • Pour pumpkin mix into baked pie crust and bake for 15 minutes.
  • Drop temperature to 175 degrees C for 35 to 40 minutes.
  • Allow to cool before cutting and store in an air tight container in the fridge.

Ok, so I expected amazing, wow party in my mouth. What did I get? “Meh, ok in my mouth, I think”. I don’t know man. Maybe I fucked the entire recipe up but I’m a pretty amazing human being and I really doubt that this is my fault. So, if you are an American reader and you know of a better recipe, please drop it in the comments and I MAY consider making it again.

So, there was a little crack in my pastry and some of the pumpkin filling spread everywhere and now this damned thing is stuck to the pie thing. I don’t even know man, I might be cursed.

I don’t know man, after being sick and unable to bake for so long, I was really hoping for something more, you know, less weird tasting. Maybe this is an acquired taste or something that you needed to have grown up eating. I’m neither of these people man, I don’t think we are missing out on much here.

Secondary thought? Ok, it’s not as “meh” as I thought. I get why people would eat this, I don’t know if it will be infiltrating the South African market any time soon but yea, it’s kinda nice, so maybe let it sit for a day for the flavors to develop. Maybe that’s a thing? Maybe that’s this thing? Americans, am I right about the thing? I’ll keep eating it throughout the week, who knows man? Who knows?

Sorry for the lack of puns, this pumpkin pie has me in my feelings and left me in a bit of a dry patch. Almost like a pumpkinless patch. See how bad that was?
